Bomber Command historian Steve Darlow has brought to our attention a quite unique, unusual, and powerful new piece of musical theatre which is under development. Steve sent us the following.
Inspired by the true-life stories of the men and women who served their country during the Second World War ‘The Navigator’ tells the story of a Lancaster bomber crew and the women who shared their lives. The bonds of friendship, romance, and love are tested to the extreme as they struggle to survive, fight for freedom, and simply hope they will see another sunrise.
In addition to the theatrical impact of the show it has been designed to have an educational value. Cast members will be required to run workshops and host Q&A sessions in local schools and theatres. It is also intended that Bomber Command veterans will be involved in these activities. The project is supported by many areas of the world-wide RAF community, including the Bomber Command Association, the RAF Benevolent Fund, and many distinguished senior veterans.
‘The Navigator’ keeps alive a period of recent history too often forgotten, and pays respect to those men and women who sacrificed so much in their formative years.
